If you have used pipes before, you understand how important it is to keep them clean. If you are new to this, it’s good to understand that cleaning your pipe properly is essential in ensuring that it does not affect the flavor of smoke. Additionally, it prevents the pipe from getting damaged. In this article, you will learn how to clean a pipe properly and easily.

DIY Pipe Cleaning Using Rubbing Alcohol

What you need

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Sealable bags
  • Salt
  • Dish soap

Step By Step Guide on How to Clean a Pipe

1. Put The Pipe in a Sealable Plastic Bag

Remove any visible material from the surface of the pipe. Do this by holding it upside down and taping it. You can also use a cotton swab and a thin object to get rid of any deposit you can reach. Then place the pipe inside the sealable bag.

2. Add Rubbing Alcohol in the Bag

Add rubbing alcohol in the bag until the pipe is properly submerged. Alcohol is good at removing tar and resin, which are some of the most common materials found in pipes. The higher the amount of alcohol, the faster the process.

3. Add Some Salt

Add salt to the rubbing alcohol with the pipe inside. It will scrub all the areas in the pipe, including those that a brush can’t reach.

You need to use salt generously for this. Coarse salt is the best for this case.

4. Let the Pipe Rest for 12 Hours

You don’t clean your pipe while in a hurry. You have to give it some more time so that it can get cleaned properly. Let it soak for around 12 hours. This ensures that the rubbing alcohol has absorbed all the unwanted materials in the pipe.

5. Wash the Pipe

Shake the pipe vigorously to ensure all residue has been removed entirely. You can also add more salt during this process, since the salt you added before has likely dissolved. Then take the pipe out of the bag. Wash it using dish soap and water. Avoid washing it so roughly as you can make it have scratches. Rinse it with warm water and let it dry before using it again.

DIY Pipe Cleaning Using Vinegar and Baking Soda

  • Mix the vinegar and baking soda. The baking soda will act as a water softener in this case, while vinegar gets rid of wax and resin from the surface of the pipe. You only need to mix the two ingredients, and they will make a good cleaning agent.
  • Soak the pipe in the solution and let it stay for 15 minutes. If you see any deposit after soaking, remove it using a cotton swab.
  • Remove the pipe, rinse it with warm water and let it dry before using it.

You can also clean your pipe using boiling water or smoke soap. However, the rubbing alcohol method remains the most effective.

You need to clean your pipe frequently to ensure it doesn’t have deposits that could damage it or interfere with the quality of smoke. Cleaning it regularly will make your work easier, more than cleaning it after it has accumulated a lot of residues.
