How to Choose the Right E-Liquid

You’ve found the ideal e-cigarette for your hobby, but what about the liquid? Once you run out of the initial canister that comes with your e-cigarette, you’ll need to head to your local smoke shop to pick out a replacement.

There’s a lot to consider when choosing an e-liquid in Scottsdale, AZ. Here are just a few factors to keep in mind.

Flavor

The most important consideration for most e-cig enthusiasts is the flavor of the liquid. Ultimately, regardless of all the other factors that go into choosing an e-liquid, if you don’t like the flavor, you’re not going to enjoy the experience.

You can find e-liquids in just about all flavor profiles, including fruity, savory, various cocktails and classic tobacco blends. You may stick to tobacco at first if you’re used to regular cigarettes, but eventually venture out and try some more complex food flavors. There’s a practically infinite number of possibilities with flavors, and new ones are constantly coming out.

You should plan to always have a stock of e-liquids you know you like, then purchase new flavors in smaller amounts just so you don’t spend a lot of money on something you might not enjoy.

PG and VG

Each e-liquid in Scottsdale, AZ features a base solution that will be either vegetable glycerol (VG), propylene glycol (PG) or a combination of the two. PG e-liquids are usually more flavorful, but will have a weaker vapor to them. VG e-liquids, meanwhile, are a little sweeter and more viscous, which can dull the flavor but also result in larger clouds.

If you go with a blend, the PG to VG ratio will most commonly be 40:60, to give the right balance of flavor. However, there are those who are allergic to PG, which means they’ll either want a pure VG e-liquid or a ratio that features at least 80 percent VG.

Nicotine

E-liquids come in a variety of nicotine strengths. If you’re a light smoker, you can go with a low-level nicotine e-cig that features 6 mg or below. Heavy chain smokers will want high-strength e-cigs that feature 18 mg to 36 mg. Those who fall somewhere in between (half a pack to a pack per day) will enjoy 9 mg to 16 mg.

If you’re unsure how much nicotine is the right amount for you, a good general rule is to start with medium strength and then adjust up or down based on how you find the experience.

Ultimately, it’s a good idea to test out a new flavor before relying on it long-term. If you get your e-liquid from a brick-and-mortar retailer, you’ll likely be able to purchase a tester pack that features several sets of flavors in small bottles. You can also find online tester packs, and may even be able to choose the flavors that get placed in that pack before it ships out to you.
